A city wedding rarely covers much ground. St Mary’s Cathedral to Doltone House at Jones Bay Wharf is around twelve minutes, The Star about ten, and Pier One a similar run. Distance is never the issue.
Stopping is. St Mary’s is the busiest wedding church in Sydney and College Street has no parking at all, so the bridal car has to hold in a position agreed beforehand and pull in at the moment the bride arrives. The cathedral steps are the photograph everyone wants, which means the car needs to be there, not circling Hyde Park with a dress in the back seat.
The rest of the booking is the photo circuit. Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, the Botanic Gardens gates, Barangaroo Reserve and the Rocks laneways in one run, with the car waiting at each. That is the hour or two a city couple is really paying for.
