Nepean River Foreshore and Weir Reserve
The most photographed formal location in the area, and the easiest to reach. The western bank catches the light in the hour before sunset, and there is parking close enough that a group in formal wear is not walking far. Best between four and six in formal season.
Sydney International Regatta Centre
Open water, long straight lines and almost no crowds on a Friday evening. It suits large groups because there is room to arrange everyone with a car in frame. Ten minutes from central Penrith, and worth checking whether an event is on before you plan around it.
Jamison Park and the South Penrith Reserves
The practical choice when the schedule is tight. Close to most South Penrith and Jamisontown addresses, easy vehicle access, and enough tree cover to avoid a flat car park background. Fifteen minutes is usually enough here.
Blue Mountains Lookouts: Glenbrook and Wentworth Falls
The most striking option and the most expensive in time. Glenbrook is around twenty-five minutes from Penrith, Wentworth Falls closer to forty, and both are the same again coming back. If the mountains are on your list, decide before you book rather than on the night, because that decision changes the length of the booking more than the choice of car does.
Mountain light drops earlier than it does on the plain, so aim to arrive at least ninety minutes before sunset rather than an hour.
Choosing Between Them
Most Penrith groups settle on two stops rather than one: something close for the group shots, and one with a view. The river and the Regatta Centre pair well because they are five minutes apart. Adding the mountains means dropping one of the others.
Wherever you choose, tell whoever is driving before the day. A chauffeur who knows the stop can hold parking and keep the timing, which is the difference between a relaxed twenty minutes and a rushed five.
